MAKE A GOOD FIRST IMPRESSION
We’ve all heard the argument that a great singer is a great singer and anyone with ears should be able to “hear through” any recording no matter how rough. To my way of thinking, this is the music industry equivalent of being set up on a blind date with a person who may very well have a heart of gold but who doesn’t bother to shower. In other words, you’ve only got one chance to make a first impression with your song and given the competition out there, it had better be a great one. You might even meet a music industry person who can genuinely hear through a rough recording. This may be true for that one individual, but if you’re planning on showing your song to a variety of artists, managers, producers and A&R reps as well, it’s never safe to assume that anything less than a first-rate recording will do. By “first rate” I don’t mean full-band or elaborately produced, I simply mean your album should be recorded and produced by professionals.

I dont listen to music that much but i agree you can always tell who has been done by professionals and it makes a big first impressions
ReplyDeleteI agree that if you're going to turn in a demo it should be of good quality, but at the same time if the person in the music industry that's listening to your demo is good at his job, he should be able to hear through a rough recording. Like Cheaves said though, you don't want to take the risk of whoever is listening has a good ear, so just in case make sure you have a "first rate" recording.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy the music industry with newer artists like Lady GaGa and 3OH!3, it is really hard to know whether or not your song with be one that sells. But what I got from what you were saying is that, you need to give your best in order to stand out against the other artists, which is true.

ReplyDeleteI agree with you when you say that first impression is everything. Everyone would like to have a great quality demo, but if you don't have the best equiptment to work with, the person who is listening to the demo will be able to hear through a rough recording to see whether or not someone has talent or not.
ReplyDeleteI think first impressions are the most important part of someone. If you do not have a good one then pretty much going to take some work to get above it.
ReplyDeleteA good first impression is vital to success not only in music but in your career as well. I think we should just listen to the actual person sing and not the voice on a demo because sometimes their voice is so mixed over it doesn't even sound like the real person live. Thats just my opinion.
ReplyDeleteYes, a first impression means a lot because as it is said, you only get one chance to make a first impression. We all have heard music that has made us wonder how did they get a record deal. Those that actually make it, whether or not they are good or bad, usually have a pretty good recording.
ReplyDeleteI like to listen to music only for relaxing.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Mr. Cheaves! You can tell a difference and you want the best. It's true you've got only once chance with first impressions the Cd usually must sell the artist within the first 15 seconds. It must be the best.
ReplyDeleteCorrect, the first impression is always the best. Even though we should not judge on such, we as humans always make our judgements based on our first impression.
